Hi, I’m Corey, Founder of Break The Scale Driving School
My journey in driving didn’t begin in a classroom - it began on the buses. Working as a bus driver gave me years of real-world road experience, handling busy routes in all conditions. That role taught me patience, professionalism, and how to stay calm under pressure, all qualities I carry into my work with pupils and instructors today.
From Bus Driver to Driving Instructor
From there, I stepped into the world of driving instruction and became a trainer with one of the UK’s largest national driving schools. I spent years mentoring new instructors, guiding them through their early careers, and learning what it truly takes to build safe, confident drivers. It was also here that I saw the flaws in the system. Too many schools were focused on filling diaries and chasing numbers rather than raising standards. Learners often felt like just another booking, and instructors were left unsupported.
My Vision
That experience sparked something in me. I knew the industry needed something different, and that’s why I started Break The Scale Driving School. My vision was clear:
- For learners: A school where they feel valued, supported, and taught properly, not rushed through to the test.
- For instructors: A franchise where they are treated fairly, with reasonable fees and genuine backing to help them succeed.
- For training: Instructor education that goes deeper than the basics, shaped by real-world experience and advanced knowledge.
Continuous Development
Alongside building the school, I’ve always pushed myself to grow as a driver and trainer. I’m ORDIT trained, I hold a PCV licence, and I passed my Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) advanced driving test with a First. I now volunteer as an IAM Observer, coaching others to raise their driving standards. These achievements reflect my belief that we should never stop developing – the better we are, the more we can give back to learners and instructors alike.
